Conference Carolinas Featured on MLB Opening Day Rosters
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas baseball is featured on Major League Baseball Opening Day rosters that have been released this week in advance of the start of the shortened 60-game 2020 regular season.
Belmont Abbey’s
Emilio Pagán is a part of the San Diego Padres Opening Day roster. Pagán joins the Padres this season after previously being a part of the Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays organizations. The Simpsonville, S.C. native was fantastic last season for the Rays, saving 20 games. The right-handed pitcher finished the season with 96 strikeouts in 70 innings. Pagán owned a 2.31 ERA.
Kodi Whitley of Mount Olive is a part of the Opening Day roster for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is the third from Mount Olive to make a Major League Baseball 40-man roster since the 2012 season. The Clayton, N.C. native was strong last year in the minors, spending time in Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A. The right-handed pitcher at the Triple-A level last year with the Memphis Redbirds owned a 1.52 ERA with a 2-0 record to go along with two saves. He had 27 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched.
The Padres open their 2020 campaign at 9:10 p.m. EST tonight (Friday, July 24, 2020) at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cardinals open their 2020 season at 8:15 p.m. EST tonight (Friday, July 24, 2020) at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
