Belmont Abbey Sweeps First Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belmont Abbey swept the first Conference Carolinas women’s basketball weekly awards of the 2020-21 season.
 
Belmont Abbey senior forward Maria Kuhlman was chosen as the Player of the Week, while senior forward Allie Downing was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Kuhlman has helped the nationally-ranked Crusaders to a 4-1 start by averaging 13.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida native is shooting 55.8 percent from the field on the year so far. She has knocked down 52.9 percent of her 3-point attempts.
 
A native of New Madison, Ohio, Downing has posted seven steals and blocked four shots (including two in a win over NCAA Division I UNC Greensboro). In addition, Downing has brought down 25 defensive rebounds. Downing is averaging 11.4 points and 6.4 rebounds on the season.
