Belmont Abbey Sweeps Inaugural Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belmont Abbey swept the inaugural Conference Carolinas men’s basketball weekly awards of the 2020-21 season.
 
Belmont Abbey junior guard LJ McCoy was named the Player of the Week, while junior guard Nate Davis was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
McCoy propelled Belmont Abbey to a 2-0 start by averaging 15 points per game.  The Thomasville, North Carolina native had 10 points in Belmont Abbey’s win over No. 22 UNC Pembroke on Jan. 2. He followed that up by tallying a season-best 20 points in Belmont Abbey’s thrilling 87-85 win over league favorite Emmanuel on Jan. 8. McCoy also had 15 points in Belmont Abbey’s exhibition win over NCAA Division I Charlotte. 
 
A native of Denver, Colorado, Davis averaged 2.5 steals per game in Belmont Abbey’s two regular season wins over UNC Pembroke and Emmanuel. He averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Davis had nine rebounds in the Crusader win over Emmanuel.
