Tate Abbott of Lees-McRae Selected Women’s Swimmer of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Tate Abbott of Lees-McRae has been selected as the first Conference Carolinas Women’s Swimmer of the Week of the 2020-21 season.
A freshman from High Point, North Carolina, Abbott started off her first season at Lees-McRae by capturing three individual wins, a new school record and helping to win the 200 medley relay (1:50.91).
Abbott broke the Lees-McRae record in the 100 free with a time of 53.82 to go along with wins in both the 50 free (24.72) and 50 fly (27.20) in Kingsport, Tennessee at the King Early Season Invite on Oct. 3. The freshman paced Lees-McRae to a first-place finish in the event by leading the Bobcats to 10 victories in the 14 total events.
Abbott followed up her performance in the King Invite by touching first in the 200 free (2:17.50) and swimming a leg of the 200 freestyle relay winning team (2:01.53) in the tri-meet against West Virginia Tech and Shawnee State on Oct. 24. The Bobcats swept the tri-meet by a combined score of 283-115.
