Shanika Peterkin of Barton and Peace Okeke of North Greenville Earn Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Shanika Peterkin of Barton and Peace Okeke of North Greenville have earned the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas women’s basketball.
The reigning Conference Carolinas Player and Defensive Player of the Year, Peterkin was tabbed as the Player of the Week, while Okeke was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior center from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Peterkin averaged 24.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in three games last week for Barton. Peterkin also shot 64 percent (30-of-47) from the field on the week. Peterkin scored over 20 in all three games last week and finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots in Barton’s 83-72 league road win over preseason favorite Belmont Abbey on Friday, Jan. 15.
A senior forward from Abache, Nigeria, Okeke finished North Greenville’s two-game league sweep of Chowan with five steals, five blocks and 13 defensive rebounds. She averaged a double-double on the week offensively as well with 12 points and 10 boards per game.
