Shelby Shepherd of North Greenville and Maya Grimes of UNC Pembroke Named Women’s Soccer Weekly Award Winners
GREENVILLE, S.C. –Shelby Shepherd of North Greenville and Maya Grimes of UNC Pembroke took home Conference Carolinas women’s soccer weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 3.
Shepherd was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Grimes collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A senior forward from Johns Creek, Georgia, Shepherd had a big week as she tallied six points on three goals in a 1-0-1 week for the Crusaders. She began the week with a pair of goals on four shots in a 5-2 win over Belmont Abbey and then capped the week with a goal on two shots in a 2-2 tie with conference leader and regionally-ranked Mount Olive.
A junior defender from Kernersville, North Carolina, Grimes led a Braves defense that allowed just 10 shots over two games and registered two shutouts. Grimes played every minute of UNCP's 3-0 win over Shaw, and 72 minutes of UNCP's 7-0 victory at Converse. She tallied a pair of assists at Converse, while also logging two shots and helping to limit the Valkyries to just two shots (none on goal).
