Chowan Earns Sixth Seed in Super-Region 2 in NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas tournament champion Chowan has received the sixth seed in the upcoming Super-Region 2 section of the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship.
Making its first NCAA trip in program history, Chowan will travel to West Florida at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21 to open the tournament. In the opening game of their side of the bracket, seventh-seeded Nova Southeastern will battle 10
th-seeded Coker. The winner of that match will face second-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic for the right to battle the winner of West Florida and Chowan in the next round.
Ranked nationally at points during the 2021 fall regular season, Chowan picked up its first-ever Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship title with a 2-1 victory over Francis Marion on Sunday, Nov. 14 at the Florence Soccer Complex.
The Hawks enter the NCAA Tournament with a 13-3-1 overall record. The 13 wins are a program record.
Chowan is led by reigning three-time Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year Toby Sims, who in addition to his defensive prowess is second in Conference Carolinas with 11 goals on the year. He is also second in points with 25. Chowan’s Harri Lovett leads Conference Carolinas and is second nationally with 14 assists.
Gulf South Conference tournament champion West Florida welcomes Chowan owning a 12-3-3 overall record. The Argonauts are led by Kainan Dos Santos, who presently has 30 points on 13 goals and four assists.
The 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship includes 40 teams from the four super regions with 10 from each of the super regions earning a spot in the tournament.
Super-Region 2 features teams from Conference Carolinas, the Gulf South Conference, the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and the Sunshine State Conference.
