Emmanuel, UNC Pembroke Hold Serve, Advance to Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Semifinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After a thrilling opening weekend, the quarterfinals of the 2021 Fall Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Championship did not disappoint as both No. 2 seeds, Emmanuel and UNC Pembroke, advanced to the semifinals on Nov. 19. 
 
In Franklin Springs, Georgia, East No. 2 Emmanuel played host to West No. 3 seed Mount Olive and the Lions dominated set one, 25-15, inside a packed Shaw Athletic Center. It was a much closer set two as the teams traded rallies throughout. Extra points were needed to decide the game and it was the Lions who captured the 29-27 win to go up 2-0.
 
In the third set, the Trojans led early and often, but Emmanuel battled back to take the lead at 24-23 and extra points were needed once more. After the teams traded side-outs, an epic rally ensued, and it was the Lions who were able to put the ball down for the 26-24 win to advance to the semifinals. Emmanuel was led by Aleksandra Hamuda who tallied 15 kills and collected 10 digs while Alaina Emminger added 10 kills.
 
Things weren’t as tight in Pembroke, North Carolina where fourth-seeded Erskine out of the West traveld to face East No. 2 seed UNC Pembroke. The Braves won the match in straight sets, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-13. UNCP hit an impressive .336 in the match and were led by the individual play of Shannon Skryd who had a match-high 13 kills and hit .480 to go along with 15 digs. 
 
The top four seeds remain in the field and will square off at the Student Center Complex on the campus of King University in Bristol, Tennessee. The semifinals will begin on Friday, Nov. 19 with the championship final taking place on Nov. 20. The first semifinal at 5 p.m. will feature West No. 2 Emmanuel against East No. 1 Francis Marion while East No. 2 UNC Pembroke will face West No. 1 North Greenville at 7:30 p.m. The final will take place at 3 p.m.
