Conference Carolinas Unveils 2021 Fall Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Conference Carolinas has unveiled its 2021 fall women’s volleyball all-conference honors as chosen by the league’s head coaches.
Abigail Durham of West division champion North Greenville was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Taylor Roberts of Emmanuel was named Defensive Player of the Year, UNC Pembroke’s Katie Pressley was the Freshman of the Year and Francis Marion Head Coach Lauren Baufield-Edwards was named Coach of the Year.
A redshirt sophomore from Easley, South Carolina, Durham was the offensive catalyst for the Crusaders as she averaged a league-best 3.64 kills per set with a minimum of 65 sets played and her 335 total kills in 92 sets ranks fourth in the league. She also led the league in points per set with a minimum of 65 sets played with 3.97 per set as she totaled 365 points on the season. The opposite/outside hitter is the first women’s volleyball player from North Greenville to win the award.
Roberts is the second Lion to ever win the Defensive Player of the Year honor (Aysha Avery, 2018). The senior middle blocker from Rome, Georgia averaged 1.02 blocks per set with 102 blocks (11 solo, 91 assists) over 100 sets played. She also was impressive on offense as she tallied 221 kills and hit .291 on the season.
A freshman setter from Indiana Trail, North Carolina, Pressley impressed in her first season in Conference Carolinas as she dished out a league-best 996 assists in 101 sets for a 9.86 average, the second-best mark in the conference. She also collected 259 digs, 31 blocks and 38 service aces on the season.
Baufield-Edwards couldn’t ask for a better start to the Patriots’ time in Conference Carolinas as she led Francis Marion to the East division title and a No. 1 seed in the Conference Carolinas Championship. In her fifth season at the helm, Baufield-Edwards coached the Patriots to top-five rankings in all of the major team categories.
