Conference Carolinas Well Represented on Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region Soccer Teams

GREENVILLE, S.C.  - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) released its 2021 All-Southeast Region men’s and women’s soccer teams on Tuesday morning and 10 Conference Carolinas student-athletes were recognized. 

Five women and five men earned the honors representing four different institutions in UNC Pembroke, Chowan, Mount Olive and Francis Marion. The Braves and Hawks each had two first-team selections while Chowan led the way with four total honorees. 

Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Player of the Year Rilee Seering and Freshman of the Year Anna Grossheim were named to the all-region first team for UNC Pembroke. Carolina Lucci and Sabrina Henderson represented the Chowan women on the second team while Defensive Player of the Year Shaunalee Govia from Mount Olive was also a second-team selection. 

Harri Lovett and Conference Carolinas men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Year Toby Sims represented Chowan on the first team with Sims earning his third straight all-region selection (2018, 2019). Alvaro Zamora and Sam Pollard from Francis Marion were named to the second team after both being honored last season. The final conference representative was the 2021 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Alfie Pope of Mount Olive who earned second-team recognition. 

The D2CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region’s sports information directors.

The D2CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of high education.  The D2CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.

The 13 members of the All-Southeast Region first team will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released Tuesday, Dec. 7. The complete All-Southeast region teams are available here
