Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive Advance to Semifinals of Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Third-seeded Mount Olive and eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey advanced to the 2021 Fall Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship semifinals with one-goal quarterfinal victories on Saturday, Nov. 6.
 
In the first men's semifinal of the day, Ethan Willie would open the scoring for third-seeded Mount Olive in the 18th minute to give the Trojans a 1-0 advantage that they would hold until the 42nd minute. North Greenville would even things up at the 41:02 mark when Gareth Greene scored for the Crusaders. The game looked as if it would be headed to overtime, but Alfie Pope headed in a cross from Roberto Hernandez in the 90th minute to send the Trojans to the semifinals.
 
Defending tournament champion Belmont Abbey advanced to Florence again to defend its title with a 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Lees-McRae. The lone goal in the victory for eighth-seeded Belmont Abbey was scored by Trevor Mueller in the 64th minute. 
 
Belmont Abbey and top-seeded Francis Marion will open up the semifinals of the 2021 Fall Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 at the Florence Soccer Complex. Third-seeded Mount Olive and second-seeded Chowan will then take the pitch at 1:30 p.m. for the second semifinal. The semifinal winners will face off in the final at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14.
