Conference Carolinas Has Strong Day at 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Southeast Regional

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Conference Carolinas men’s and women’s cross country put together a strong day at the 2021 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
 
In the men’s 10K, Conference Carolinas Runner of the Year Joshua Chepkesir of UNC Pembroke finished in second place to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Championship. Chepkesir posted a time of 30:23.1.
 
Conference Carolinas 2021 fall team champion Emmanuel captured the best finish among the men’s teams in the conference with a sixth-place finish. Four Conference Carolinas teams finished in the top 10 in the regional with UNC Pembroke right behind Emmanuel in seventh, while Mount Olive was ninth and Lees-McRae was 10th.
 
In the women’s 6K, UNC Pembroke picked up the best team finish with an eighth-place team finish. Three Conference Carolinas teams were in the top 15 with Mount Olive 12th and King 14th.

The 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Southeast Regional was hosted by Converse University and OneSpartanburg, Inc. at the Roger Milliken Center.
 
The top three teams at each of the eight NCAA Division II regional championships automatically advanced to the championship finals while 10 at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Committee for a total of 34 teams.

In addition to team qualifications, the top two individuals who were not part of a qualifying team automatically advanced to the championship finals. All individuals who finished in the top five at the regional meet and were not part of a qualifying team earned a bid to the championship finals and eight individuals will be selected as at-large qualifiers. 

The championship finals will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20 at The Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Florida. The official qualifiers will be released by the NCAA on Monday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m.
