Matthias Caver of Mount Olive and Sidney Dollar of Lees-McRae Collect Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Matthias Caver of Mount Olive and Sidney Dollar of Lees-McRae are the weekly award winners for Conference Carolinas men’s basketball for the week ending Dec. 5.
Caver was selected as the Player of the Week, while Dollar was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior forward from Hampton, Virginia, Caver averaged 18.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in three conference wins for Mount Olive last week. Caver shot 61 percent (22-of-36) from the field on the week and knocked down 79 percent (11-of-14) of his free throw attempts. He also had four assists, two steals and two blocks in the three victories. Caver picked up an impressive half (12) of his 24 boards on the week on the offensive glass. Caver finished Mount Olive’s league road win over Converse on Nov. 30 with 30 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. He finished the game 13-of-14 (93 percent) from the field. He also had 14 points and four boards in a home win over Belmont Abbey on Dec. 3 before closing out the week with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a home victory over Erskine on Dec. 4.
A junior forward from Denver, North Carolina, Dollar averaged 7.3 points, 5.3 rebounds. 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game in three games last week for Lees-McRae. Dollar had six steals and two blocks on the week. Dollar’s best game on the week came in Lees-McRae’s 69-63 road league win at Francis Marion. He finished the victory with 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one assist.
