Rankings Update: Conference Carolinas Continues Strong Presence in Regional and National Polls

GREENVILLE, S.C. – With winter sports in full swing, Conference Carolinas institutions continue to represent in both regional and national polls.

  • The National Association of Basketball Coaches released the second regular-season poll of the 2021-22 season with Emmanuel and UNC Pembroke each receiving votes. In the men’s basketball D2SIDA Poll UNC Pembroke received votes and was fifth in the Southeast Region behind No. 4 Emmanuel and ahead of Lees-McRae (RV).   • The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released the third Division II Top 25 regular-season poll of the 2021-22 season and Barton slipped to No. 25 with 68 points. In the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women’s Basketball Poll Barton is tied for fifth with Carson-Newman in the Southeast Region with 30 points. Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive are tied for ninth with 11 points. The WBCA poll is available here while the D2SIDA polls are here.

  • In the pool, the updated Swimcloud Top-50 men’s rankings have Emmanuel 11th with 710.60 points with Lees-McRae No. 47 with 593.40 points and Barton 49th with 580.45 points. On the women’s side, UNC Pembroke leads the way in 43rd with 604.50 points, two spots ahead of Emmanuel with 597.95 points. Lees-McRae (592.25) and Barton (583.55) are ranked 47th and 49th, respectively. The full rankings are available here.

  • The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the first Division II wrestling regular-season rankings of the 2021-22 season and South Atlantic Conference Carolinas was well represented. UNC Pembroke leads the way at No. 18 with 22 points with King 21st with 17 points and Belmont Abbey 22nd with 16 points. All three programs have a pair of ranked wrestlers. Newberry, Queens, Lander, Limestone and Coker each received votes in the poll. The full poll is available here.

    In the NWCA individual rankings, Nick Daggett (UNC Pembroke) and Christian Small (King) were each ranked No. 2 at 125 and 141 pounds, respectively. Mitch Dean of Belmont Abbey was also ranked in the top three as No. 3 at 165 pounds. The individual rankings can be seen here.

  • On the lanes, the first National Tenpins Coaches Association Top 25 women’s bowling poll was released this week and Lincoln Memorial is ranked 22nd with 203 overall points while fellow conference member, Tusculum, is receiving votes. The complete poll is available here
