Keyshuna Fair of Converse and Allie Downing of Belmont Abbey Pick Up Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Keyshuna Fair of Converse and Allie Downing of Belmont Abbey were tabbed as the Conference Carolinas women’s basketball weekly award winners.
Fair was named the Player of the Week, while Downing collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
A freshman from Anderson, South Carolina, Fair picked up a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in Converse’s win over Erskine on Jan. 25. She followed that up by finishing with 18 points and five rebounds in Converse’s first win over King in nine years on Jan. 28. Fair also had 18 points and eight rebounds in Converse’s game with Barton on Saturday, Jan. 30. On the week, Fair averaged 19.33 points and nine rebounds.
A senior from New Madison, Ohio, Downing was particularly strong on the defensive glass last week in two games with 11 total defensive boards. In Belmont Abbey’s two wins she averaged 6.5 rebounds to go along with 15.5 points per game. She also had two steals and was the leader of a defensive unit that only gave up 53 points per game in wins over Lees-McRae and North Greenville.
