Conference Carolinas to Hold Indoor Track & Field Championships at State-of-the-Art Virginia Beach Sports Center
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Conference Carolinas is excited to announce that it will hold its 2021 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday, Feb. 22 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
The state-of-the-art Virginia Beach Sports Center features a 200-meter, hydraulically banked track inside the newest and largest indoor sports complex on the East Coast. Conference Carolinas moved the Indoor Track & Field Championships to Virginia Beach after learning just a few short weeks ago in early January that the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina would not be able to host.
“This is truly an exciting announcement for Conference Carolinas,” Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “Giving our track & field student-athletes the opportunity to compete in the Indoor Championships became a high priority for all involved in Conference Carolinas after we discovered earlier this month that we needed to change venues. I would like to thank all of our Directors of Athletics and Associate Commissioner Kit Alewine along with Assistant Commissioner Jill Weston for collaborating and working to make this a reality. This is a spectacular facility to showcase our top-notch Conference Carolinas track & field student-athletes.”
The just recently opened Virginia Beach Sports Center is located across the street from the Virginia Beach Convention Center and just steps away from local shops, restaurants and attractions, including the beautiful boardwalk and beaches of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
“It has been a pleasure working through this process with everyone at the Virginia Beach Sports Center,” Alewine said. “Since we first approached them about this being a possibility, they have been nothing short of fantastic in working with us to determine what was best for our student-athletes and Conference Carolinas. I also would like to personally thank our Directors of Athletics, and in particular track & field liaison Craig McPhail, for working with us to provide this unique opportunity for our amazing student-athletes.”
