South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Announces Field Hockey Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announced its AstroTurf Field Hockey Players of the Week for matches played during the first week of the season. Newberry's Farai Kawonde was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Belmont Abbey's Julianna Smith was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Kawonde, a senior forward from Harae, Zimbabwe, led the Wolves to a 4-0 win over Converse this past weekend. She helped the offense immensely garnering two points on two shots and two assists. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week honor for Kawonde.
Smith, a sophomore goalie from Carmel, Calif., helped lead the Crusaders to their 3-0 conference win over Mount Olive last week. She allowed no goals with two saves on two shots for a 1.000 save percentage. This is the first Defensive Player of the Week award for Smith.
