Conference Carolinas Sweeps Weekly NCATA Awards
The National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) announced its week one honors for the 2021 season on Thursday afternoon, with King University’s Catherine Reynolds earning Athlete of the Week honors to highlight the weekly awards. Limestone’s Marita Musser was also recognized as the Specialist of the Week, and King’s Alexis Wynn took home Freshman of the Week accolades after her Acrobatics & Tumbling debut last week.
Reynolds, a junior top, base and tumbling from Fairfax, Va., competed in 10 heats and team event as the Tornado picked up a season-opening win over Lander. In her debut at King, her performance was highlighted by setting a new program record with a score of 9.875 in the open pass of the tumbling event. She also helped King record a 9.50 in the synchronized pyramid and a 9.45 in both the five-element acro and compulsory toss heats.
Musser, a senior from Mohnton, Pa., helped Limestone record a trio of scored of 9.90 or higher in the pyramid event as Limestone opened the season with a win over Belmont Abbey. After beginning with a 9.90 in the inversion heat, Musser boosted the Saints to a team-record 9.95 in the synchronized pyramid before propelling Limestone in the open pyramid to its first-ever perfect 10.0 in program history. The total event score of 29.850 in the pyramid event also set a new limestone record. Musser was also named the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Wynn, a freshman base and tumbler from Waynesville, Ohio, competed in four heats and team event during her debut with the King University Acrobatics & Tumbling team last week. Her performance was highlighted by a 9.10 out of a possible 9.40 in the six-element tumbling pass. She also contributed as the Tornado scored a 9.15 in the compulsory pyramid, and also competed in team event to help King score a 91.62 in their final performance of the meet.
