South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Adds to Record Book With Numerous All-Americans on Friday at NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUIS – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas added heavily to its record book with numerous new All-Americans after the first day of the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships at America’s Convention Center.
 
At 141 pounds, South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Christian Small of King is guaranteed All-American status as one of the eight remaining wrestlers in the weight class. Small lost his first match of the day, but he battled back to win two straight and he is still in contention to finish as high as third nationally. 
 
Isiah Royal of Newberry is also already an All-American at 141 pounds, but he is also still in contention for a national title as he will wrestle Colby Smith of Lindenwood in the national semifinals on Saturday.
 
Newberry’s Will Evans at 157 pounds lost his first match on Friday, but he also battled back to earn All-America honors as one of the last eight remaining in his weight class. He will face off against the eighth-seeded Nick Young of Gannon on Saturday.
 
At 165 pounds, Belmont Abbey’s Mitch Dean was able to shake off a second round loss to best Noah Tarr of Davis & Elkins to continue on to Saturday while also earning All-America accolades.
 
South Atlantic Conference Carolinas also had an All-American at 174 pounds with Noah Curreri of Queens advancing to Saturday’s session as one of the final eight remaining wrestlers in the weight class. Curreri is the first All-American in the program history for Queens.
