Isiah Royal of Newberry Wins First National Title in History of South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestling Collaboration
ST. LOUIS – Isiah Royal of Newberry claimed the first national title in the history of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas men’s wrestling collaboration at the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships.
Competing in the national title match for the second time in the last three years, Royal was able to secure the title this season at 141 pounds with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Joey Bianchini of St. Cloud State.
The individual national title was the first in the three-year history of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas men’s wrestling collaboration, but the fourth overall in Newberry history.
Royal is part of a strong overall performance for South Atlantic Conference Carolinas at the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships with Christian Small of King, Will Evans of Newberry, Mitch Dean of Belmont Abbey and Noah Curreri of Queens earning All-America status in addition to Royal.
