Justin Burnette of Mount Olive and Cooper Abernathy of Lees-McRae Pick Up Men's Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Justin Burnette of Mount Olive and Cooper Abernathy of Lees-McRae have collected the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas men’s outdoor track & field.
Burnette was tabbed as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Abernathy picked up Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
A junior from Winston, North Carolina, Burnette shined at the Shamrock Invitational. Burnette picked up the third-best time in all of NCAA Division II and the best time in Conference Carolinas this season in the 200 meters (21.44). He also secured the second-best time in Conference Carolinas and the 10
th-best in all of Division II in the 100 meters with a time of 10.70.
A senior from Morganton, North Carolina, Abernathy finished second in the hammer throw at the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears Open with a mark of 44.42. The mark is one of the best in Conference Carolinas and the NCAA so far this outdoor season.
