GREENVILLE, S.C. – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas swept the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NWCA) Super Region II major awards.

Isiah Royal of Newberry was chosen the Super Region II Wrestler of the Year for the third straight year, while Christian Small of King was named the Rookie of the Year in the region.

The national champion at 141 pounds, Royal was able to secure the title this season with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Joey Bianchini of St. Cloud State. The individual national title was the first in the three-year history of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas men’s wrestling collaboration, but the fourth overall in Newberry history. Royal was a first team All-South Atlantic Conference Carolinas selection.

Small is the first wrestler in King program history to earn NWCA Region Rookie of the Year honors. Earlier this spring, Small was selected South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. He was also a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas second team selection at 141 pounds.
