Payton Whitley of Belmont Abbey and Rilee Jones of Barton Named Weekly Award Winners for Softball
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Payton Whitley of Belmont Abbey and Rilee Jones of Barton have picked up the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas softball.
Whitley has been selected as the Player of the Week, while Jones has been tabbed as the Pitcher of the Week.
A junior from Albemarle, North Carolina, Whitley hit .833 (5-of-6) with four RBIs in Belmont Abbey’s doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel. Whitley scored two runs and had a double, a home run and a stolen base in the doubleheader. She owned a slugging percentage of 1.500.
Jones responded to a tough outing to start last week by closing out her week with back-to-back 2-0 shutout victories over King and Lees-McRae. In the win over King, Jones allowed just three hits and struck out six. The freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia was almost unhittable in the win over Lees-McRae, allowing just one hit while striking out seven.
