Payton Whitley of Belmont Abbey and Rilee Jones of Barton Named Weekly Award Winners for Softball
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Payton Whitley of Belmont Abbey and Rilee Jones of Barton have been selected as the weekly honorees for Conference Carolinas softball.
Whitley has been chosen as the Player of the Week, while Jones has been picked as the Pitcher of the Week.
A junior from Albemarle, North Carolina, Whitley finished last week hitting .545 (6-of-11) with eight RBIs and one run scored. Whitley had three extra-base hits on one double, one triple and one home run. She owned an impressive 1.091 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .643. She had the game-winning RBI in Belmont Abbey’s game one win over Southern Wesleyan.
A freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jones was dominant last week in the circle for Barton with three shutout wins and one save. Jones threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Erskine. She struck out 33 on the week and allowed her opponents to hit just .085 against her in four appearances.
