Erskine Wins 2021 Women's Tennis Championship

SUMTER, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet were crowned champions for the 12th time and first time since 2016 at the 2021 Conference Carolinas Women’s Tennis Championship hosted at the Palmetto Tennis Complex with a 4-3 win over Mount Olive.

Championship Match

Erskine and Mount Olive picked up 6-0 victories in the doubles portion, moving the attention to the No. 3 position. Czarina Aguirre and Lana Vukovic gave Erskine the doubles point by winning in tiebreaker fashion, 7-6 (7-4).

Erskine’s Luize Valtere and Mount Olive’s Ingrid Montserrat picked up quick wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively.

After a Mount Olive win at the No. 6 position and a three-set victory by Arianna Orozco at No. 5, all eyes were on No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

Emma Bentz and Faith Wright fought back from their opening set loss to capture the second and third sets to clinch the match and team championship for Erskine. 

Bentz used the momentum from winning the tiebreaker in the second set to win 6-0 in the third. Wright went on to win 6-3, 6-1 to finish off her opponent.
