Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin Appointed to NCAA Division II Championships Committee
INDIANAPOLIS – Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin has been appointed to the NCAA Division II Championships Committee.
Colvin will begin his term of service on Sept. 1, 2021. The four-year appointment will run through Aug. 31, 2025.
“This is a tremendous honor and I am thankful for the opportunity to represent our member institutions on the Championships Committee,” Colvin said. “This is an incredibly important time in the history of the NCAA. I look forward to working with the other members of the committee over the next four years in our efforts to continue to enhance championships experiences for Division II student-athletes, while also continuing to determine what is best for our division in this area in the years to come. I cannot wait to get started with the committee.”
Colvin officially took over as Commissioner of Conference Carolinas on June 1, 2019.
Colvin has already made a significant impact in his first two years as Commissioner, overseeing the move of the league offices to Greenville, South Carolina as well as the hiring of new staff members.
During Colvin’s first academic year as Commissioner in 2019-20, Conference Carolinas fully updated and modernized its efforts as a conference. Colvin engineered the overhaul in all areas that allowed for tremendous growth as a league in all facets.
That growth can easily be seen in the addition of Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke as league members. The newest members of Conference Carolinas were unveiled in April of 2020. They will officially begin competition in Conference Carolinas in the 2021-22 academic year.
During the 2020-21 academic year, Colvin worked with the stakeholders in Conference Carolinas to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and successfully provide championships opportunities for its student-athletes. Conference Carolinas held all of its championships for the 2020-21 academic year over four months in the spring of 2021.
Conference Carolinas not only continued to grow but also offer its member institutions unparalleled opportunities. Conference Carolinas announced the addition of acrobatics and tumbling in Colvin’s first year as Commissioner. During the 2020-21 academic year, Conference Carolinas added men’s and women’s bowling.
The addition of men’s and women’s bowling is unique in that Conference Carolinas will partner with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference for its bowling championships. The inaugural Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Bowling Championships are scheduled for the spring of 2022.
Conference Carolinas is a sole sponsor of 23 sports, which is among the most in all of the NCAA. Including the collaboration with the South Atlantic Conference in men’s wrestling and field hockey along with the new partnership with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in men's and women's bowling, Conference Carolinas now provides its member institutions sports sponsorship in 27 different sports.
The ability to provide its membership sports sponsorship in 27 sports is the most in all of NCAA Division II. In addition, Conference Carolinas also provides championship opportunities for its member institutions in Esports. Conference Carolinas held its inaugural Madden and NBA2K Championships during the 2020-21 academic year.
