Four Conference Carolinas Student-Athletes Named NCBWA All-Americans
PEMBROKE, N.C. – Four Conference Carolinas student-athletes have been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America teams.
Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and Southeast Region Player of the Year John Michael Faile of North Greenville was tabbed to the first team, while Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year and Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year Hunter Stevens of Mount Olive was named to the second team. Erskine's Livan Reinoso was selected as a third team All-American, while Gehrig Octavio of North Greenville was an honorable mention choice.
The Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and the Conference Carolinas Tournament Most Valuable Player, Faile is hitting .438 for the Crusaders in 2021 with 21 homers and 73 RBIs. The redshirt sophomore from Boiling Springs, South Carolina also has 10 doubles and a triple on the year, scoring 54 runs while compiling an .882 slugging percentage and .503 on-base percentage. Faile has 74 hits on the season.
A junior from Garner, North Carolina, Stevens is 9-0 on the year with a 1.90 ERA for the Trojans. He has allowed just 14 earned runs in 66 1/3 innings of work, piling up 86 strikeouts against 30 walks. Stevens has given up just 43 hits on the season, holding opponents to a .182 average.
Reinoso hit .423 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs, which were all team-highs for the Fleet. The Hazelton, Pennsylvania native started all 43 games for Erskine in 2021 and also led the Fleet in hits (74), runs (52), doubles (15), and OPS (1.276).
A redshirt junior from Hilo, Hawaii, Octavio leads all in Conference Carolinas with a .441 batting average. He has scored 52 runs to go along with 24 RBIs. Octavio has 14 extra-base hits on seven doubles and a league-leading seven triples.
