Mount Olive Thrilling Comeback Win Highlights First Day of NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Mount Olive picked up a thrilling come-from-behind 7-6 victory over UNC Pembroke to highlight the opening day of the 2021 NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional. 

Down 6-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, Mount Olive rallied in the bottom half of the frame by scoring four runs to take the 7-6 lead it would never relinquish. Blake McLean led Mount Olive in the game with two hits, three RBIs and one run scored.

North Greenville fell 6-4 to Wingate in the other game featuring a Conference Carolinas team. The Crusaders had a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning, but Wingate scored three in the bottom half of the inning to go back ahead. They would add single runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to secure the narrow win despite North Greenville mounting a late rally with a run in the top of the ninth.

North Greenville will next play Catawba at 3 p.m. on Friday, while Mount Olive will battle Wingate at 7 p.m. on Friday.
