Kuhlman and Downing of Belmont Abbey Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®
AUSTIN, Texas - Maria Kuhlman and Allie Downing of Belmont Abbey have been selected to the Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Basketball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne winner (Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete Award), Kuhlman owns a 3.99 grade-point average as a Theology major at Belmont Abbey. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, also is minoring in Psychology and Sport Management. On the court, the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year was named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year in the 2017-18 season. She has been a first team all-conference selection in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. Kuhlman also earned all-conference honors as a third team selection in the 2017-18 season. The four-time all-conference selection is also a member of Belmont Abbey’s 1,000-point club.
Downing is a senior from New Madison, Ohio, who appeared in 116 games for the Crusaders. She averaged 13.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists during her career. A three-time All-Conference Carolinas selection, she was named to the All-Tournament teams for the conference tournament and NCAA Southeast Regional during her illustrious career. Downing has a 3.98 grade-point average with a double major in Accounting and Business Management.
