Chowan's Carolina Lucci and Johannes Oeksnevad of Lees-McRae Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Chowan's Carolina Lucci and Johannes Oeksnevad of Lees-McRae were selected as 2020-21 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Soccer First Team Academic All-Americans®.
The Academic All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® program.
Based on the absence of most fall sports competition, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Committee revised some rules and procedures for nominating student-athletes this season. Due to the low percentage of games completed this season, the nominees were selected based on career statistics and achievements.
A senior from Monaca, Pennsylvania, Lucci owns a 3.94 grade-point average as an Exercise Science major.
A first team all-conference performer this season, Lucci is just the second in league history to be named Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and be named all-conference for four straight seasons. She is the first in Conference Carolinas women's soccer history to do all of the above and be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. Lucci is the second overall from Chowan to be chosen as an Academic All-American by CoSIDA.
Oeksnevad, a senior from Sandnes, Norway, owns a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a double major in English and Sport Management. Oeksnevad has tallied 16 goals and six assists in his four-year career. Oeksnevad is the fourth men's soccer player and the fifth student-athlete overall from Lees-McRae to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
In addition, senior forward Magnus Hoejland of 2021-22 Conference Carolinas member Francis Marion was chosen to the men's soccer Academic All-American® third team. A native of Holstebro, Denmark, Hoejland earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in business economics (magna cum laude) in May, finishing with a 3.902 grade point average. He started nine matches in this past spring’s delayed and abbreviated season. Hoejland registered two goals and one assist on six shots after making a switch from the defensive backline to a striker position at the start of the season.
