GREENVILLE, S.C. – Emily Hein of Mount Olive and Averee Andrews of Lees-McRae have been chosen as the first recipients of the weekly honors for the fall of 2021 for Conference Carolinas women’s soccer.
Hein was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Andrews collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A freshman forward from Binghamton, New York, Hein helped lead Mount Olive to an undefeated week to start the year. She had two of Mount Olive’s four goals in its 4-1 season-opening victory over Shaw on Thursday, Sept. 2. She played 172 minutes in total on the week, including an impressive 108 in Mount Olive’s 0-0 double-overtime tie with Mars Hill on Saturday, Sept. 4.
A sophomore defender from Wake Forest, North Carolina, Andrews helped guide Lees-McRae to its second straight season with a 2-0 start. Andrews logged 129 minutes on the pitch in total in helping to pace a defense that only allowed one goal on the week in wins over Mars Hill (Sept. 2) and USC Aiken (Sept. 4). In the 2-1 season-opening win for Lees-McRae over Mars Hill, Andrews had the assist on the game-winning goal.
