Rankings Update: Conference Carolinas Shines in Regional and National Rankings
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Several Conference Carolinas institutions improved their position across national and regional polls this week, highlighted by UNC Pembroke men’s basketball cracking the top-10 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released the seventh Division II Top 25 regular-season poll of the 2021-22 season and Barton moved up five spots to No. 15 with 222 points. In the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women’s Basketball poll, Barton is ranked No. 21 in the national poll with 54 points and remained No. 4 in the Southeast Region with 35 points. In the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll, UNC Pembroke climbed into the top 10 at No. 10 with 250 points. In the D2SIDA Men’s Basketball poll UNC Pembroke improved four spots to No. 7 with 285 points in the national rankings and was voted a unanimous No. 1 in the Southeast region with 60 points. The latest regular-season Off the Block Division II Men’s Volleyball Coaches Poll was released this week and Mount Olive is No. 4 with 64 points while Belmont Abbey is seventh with 30 points. North Greenville and Barton also received votes. The full poll is available here.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association released the latest poll and King, Newberry, Belmont Abbey, Queens and UNC Pembroke all received votes. In the individual rankings, Nick Daggett of UNC Pembroke and Evan Carrigan of Newberry were ranked 11th and 12th at 125 pounds, Christian Small of King was ranked sixth at 141 pounds, Isiah Royal of Newberry was ranked seventh at 149 pounds, Mitch Dean of Belmont Abbey was ninth at 157 pounds, Caleb Spears of Newberry was 12th at 174 pounds and Noah Curreri of Queens was ninth at 184 pounds. On the diamond, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released their preseason poll where Mount Olive is tied for 13th with 220 points while North Greenville and UNC Pembroke received votes. In the NCBWA Southeast Region, Mount Olive is tied for second with 78 points, North Greenville is fifth with 69 points, UNC Pembroke is sixth with 47 points and Francis Marion and Erskine received votes. On the track, the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the first regional Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) and on the women’s side six Conference Carolinas institutions found themselves inside the top-10 led by Mount Olive at No. 3 with 311 points. UNC Pembroke was sixth (139.52), Converse was seventh (126.74), Southern Wesleyan was eighth (121.88), North Greenville was ninth (105.79) and Emmanuel was 10th (81.33). King was 13th (54.13), Lees-McRae was 14th (54.00), Erskine was 20th (26.75) and Barton was 23rd (9.17). On the men’s side, Mount Olive ranked fourth with 241.52 points, UNC Pembroke was seventh with 171.45 points, Emmanuel was eighth with 122.33 points, and North Greenville was ninth with 112.87 points. Southern Wesleyan was 12th (56.71), Barton was 16th (27.38), Lees-McRae was 17th (24.62), King was 20th (18.79) and Erskine was 21st with 11.72 points.
