Ivanda Hudjakova of Mount Olive and Shanika Peterkin of Barton Named Women’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ivanda Hudjakova of Mount Olive and Shanika Peterkin of Barton have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball for the week ending Jan. 3.
Hudjakova was selected as the Player of the Week, while Peterkin earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A 6-foot-1 senior forward from Valmiera, Latvia, Hudjakova recorded a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 64-56 win over Anderson on Monday, Dec. 20. She added five steals and an assist as she shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from the floor. Hudjakova and the Trojans are undefeated on the season at 8-0 overall and 6-0 in league play.
Peterkin, a 6-foot-2 senior center from Virginia Beach, Virginia, finished with 19 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot in leading the Bulldogs to a 93-53 win over Southern Wesleyan on Monday, Dec. 20. Peterkin also shot 8-of-10 from the field and leads the Bulldogs (9-1, 5-1) in scoring this year at 17.2 points per contest.
