Conference Carolinas Announces January SAAC Programming Schedule

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will hold three virtual programs in the month of January to benefit student-athletes across all 13 member institutions. 

The month is highlighted by the virtual mental health and wellness series which features a pair of virtual sessions on Jan. 19 and 28. The month also includes the first of three Sports Administration Career Forums on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. which will look at Sports Information Directors. 

Dr. Shae Fontanta, D.O. kicks off the mental health series on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. ET with a presentation on the importance of sleep for your mental well-being. Shea Fontana, MD is the Associate Program Director for the Upstate psychiatry residency program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at UofSC School of Medicine Greenville. She has a Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry awarded by the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). She focuses on providing care to athletes, college students, and adults utilizing a combination of lifestyle modifications (sleep hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity), psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology. The second session in the mental health series features registered dietitian Annie Anderson, MS, RD, CSOWM, LS and CSSD presenting on how to get the most out of your dining hall. Join the virtual session on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. HERE

The conference Sports Administration Career Forums kicks off on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. with the Sports Information Directors' role. The four-person panel includes Brian Hand, Assistant Commissioner for External Relations at Conference Carolinas, Travis Chell, Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Communications/External Affairs at King University, Patrick Smith, Directory of Sports Information/Gameday Operations Supervisor at Lees-McRae College and Ryan Smith, Director of Athletics Communication at the University of Mount Olive. This is a chance for student-athletes to learn more about different administrative roles within athletics. The virtual session can be accessed HERE.
