Rankings Update: Conference Carolinas Continues Regional and National Relevance

GREENVILLE, S.C. – As institutions return to campus following the holiday break and spring sports begin, Conference Carolinas continues to maintain a strong presence across regional and national rankings.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released the sixth Division II Top 25 regular-season poll of the 2021-22 season and Barton remained No. 23 with 93 points. In the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women’s Basketball Poll Barton is fifth in the Southeast Region with 35 points just ahead of Mount Olive who is sixth with 29 points. In the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll, UNC Pembroke came in at No. 24 with 41 points. In the men’s basketball D2SIDA Men’s Basketball Poll UNC Pembroke climbed to No. 20 with 66 points in the national rankings and was third in the Southeast Region with 43 points. Emmanuel is ninth with 12 points while Lees-McRae continued to receive votes in the region. The NABC poll can be found here while the D2SIDA polls can be found here

On the mat, King, Belmont Abbey, Queens, Limestone and UNC Pembroke all received votes in the second edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division II Coaches Rankings. In the individual rankings, six student-athletes represented the conference. Nick Daggett (UNCP) ranked 12th at 125 pounds, Christian Small (King) is sixth at 141 pounds, John Burger (Limestone) and Dallas Boone (King) are ranked ninth and 11th, respectively, at 157 pounds, Mitch Dean (BAC) is seventh at 165 pounds and Noah Curreri (Queens) is seventh at 184 pounds. The USA Lacrosse Magazine men’s and women’s preseason polls were released earlier this week and Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive appeared in both polls. In the men’s top-20 poll, Belmont Abbey is ranked ninth while Mount Olive is 10th. On the women’s side, Mount Olive is 18th while Belmont Abbey received votes.
