Yessine Bessaies of North Greenville and Derek Fournier of Emmanuel Named Men's Soccer Players of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Yessine Bessaies of North Greenville and Derek Fournier of Emmanuel have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas men's soccer for the week ending Oct. 9.
Bessaies earned Offensive Player of the Week honors while Fournier took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A 5-foot-10 forward, Bessaies led the Crusaders to a 5-0 win over Erskine with a hat trick in North Greenville’s only match of the week. The graduate student from Bordeaux, France scored three goals on three shots in 52 minutes of action. He scored his first two tallies in the first 32 minutes of play and completed the hat trick with the final score of the game in the 73rd minute. Bessaies is now tied with teammate Renan Macuglia for the team lead with five goals.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Fournier played all 180 minutes on the back line for the Lions in a pair of conference shutouts this week. In a 2-0 win over Southern Wesleyan, the 6-foot-2 defender helped limit the Warriors to four shots on goal in the contest. The Lions closed the week with a 1-0 shutout of Francis Marion where they permitted just one shot on frame. Emmanuel has shut out its last four opponents and won each game by an average of 2.25 goals.
