Addison Dangler of Mount Olive and Makayla Willets of Francis Marion Named Women’s Soccer Players of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Addison Dangler of Mount Olive and Makayla Willets of Francis Marion have earned the weekly honors in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer for the week ending Oct. 16.
Dangler earned Offensive Player of the Week honors while Willets took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
A freshman from Manassas, Virginia, Dangler finished the week with five points behind two goals and one assist, as the Trojans posted a 2-0 mark in conference action. She registered an assist on a perfectly placed through ball to teammate Delia Allwood in a 2-0 win at Belmont Abbey on Tuesday night. She capped the week with a two-goal performance over the weekend after scoring twice in the first half in a 5-0 victory over Converse. She is currently tied for third on the team with 10 points and four goals this season.
A native of Mastic, New York, Willets played all 270 minutes in goal for the Patriots’ and recorded a .67 goals against average as she permitted just two goals with 16 saves on 53 shots. She had a season-high 13 saves in a 1-1 tie against No. 24 UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, Oct. 11, made two saves in a 1-0 road loss to Belmont Abbey on Friday, Oct. 13 and added a save in her third shutout of the season, a 1-0 home win over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 15.
