North Greenville Captures 2022 Conference Carolinas Developmental Men’s Soccer Championship

WILSON, N.C. - The 2022 Conference Carolinas Developmental Men’s Soccer Championship final went to penalty kicks and it was North Grenville who came away with the victory, 6-5, at Truist Stadium on the campus of Barton in Wilson, North Carolina on Friday night.
 
The teams were evenly matched throughout the contest as each scored a goal in regulation. In the 46th minute, the Bulldogs scored first off the foot of Zeph Rico-Jaramillo. The Crusaders netted the equalizer in the 68th minute on a penalty kick from Andoni Perez.
 
After a scoreless overtime, North Greenville goalkeeper, Graham Lee, turned away the first penalty kick for Barton, but the Bulldogs goalkeeper turned away the fifth Crusaders’ attempt to give the home team a chance and Barton responded to push the match to sudden-victory PKs tied at 4. 
 
In the eighth round of penalty kicks, North Greenville’s Miller Whiteford found the lower right corner to take the 6-5 advantage and Barton’s attempt sailed high to give the Crusaders the win.
 
Graham Lee of North Greenville was named the Most Outstanding Player.
