Fletcher Dyson of Lees-McRae and Andrea Scapolo of Francis Marion Pick Up Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Fletcher Dyson of Lees-McRae and Andrea Scapolo of Francis Marion have collected the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas men’s soccer for the week ending Oct. 23, 2022.
After winning the inaugural honor on Aug. 30, Dyson bookends the 2022 regular season by winning the final Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Scapolo picks up his second Defensive Player of the Week nod.
A sophomore midfielder from Aylsham in north Norfolk, England, Dyson helped Lees-McRae to two positive results last week with six points on two goals and two assists. In Lees-McRae’s 4-0 road league win over Erskine on Oct. 19, Dyson first assisted on Harrison Watts’ goal in the eighth minute before scoring one of his own in the 59
th minute. Dyson assisted on Gray Smith’s fourth minute tally in Lees-McRae’s 3-3 tie with Mount Olive at home on Oct. 22 and then added a goal of his own to solidify the tie on a penalty kick in the 87
th minute. Dyson leads all in Conference Carolinas with 23 points on nine goals and five assists.
A graduate student from Milan, Italy, Scapolo registered two shutouts last week for Francis Marion between the pipes. He made seven saves on a week that saw Francis Marion go 2-0-1 and pick up the second seed in the Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship. In Francis Marion’s 1-0 conference road win over Belmont Abbey on Oct. 17, Scapolo made one save. He followed that up with three more saves in Francis Marion’s tie with Conference Carolinas regular-season champion Converse a couple of days later on Oct. 19. Scapolo also had three saves in Francis Marion’s 5-0 league win over Erskine on Saturday, Oct. 22. Scapolo is first in Conference Carolinas in shutouts (6) and is second in Conference Carolinas in goals against average (1.059).
