Mercy Bell of UNC Pembroke Selected Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Month
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mercy Bell of UNC Pembroke has been selected as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for women’s soccer for August/September.
A 5-foot-9 forward, Bell was a two-time Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week in September as she scored a team-best seven goals and added three assists over 10 matches as the Braves opened the season 9-1. The Jacksonville, North Carolina native put 23 of her 37 shots on goal with two game-winning goals and one game-tying goal.
She scored her first career goal, a game-winner, in a win over Shaw on Sept. 5 and sparked a five-game run in which she tallied all of her 17 points on the month. She recorded her first two career assists in a win over Converse on Sept. 7 and tallied back-to-back multi-goal games in wins over Erskine and Lenoir-Rhyne. In the 2-1 victory over a ranked Lenoir-Rhyne program, she scored both goals.
