Emmanuel and UNC Pembroke to Meet in Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship Final on Sunday

PEMBROKE, N.C. - It will be a battle of the No. 1 seeds from each division in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship final with West top-seeded Emmanuel set to battle East top-seeded UNC Pembroke at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13 at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court inside the English E. Jones Center.
Emmanuel picked up a 3-0 win over East second-seeded Mount Olive in the first semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 12 to advance to the final, while UNC Pembroke rallied to pick up a thrilling five-set win over West second-seeded North Greenville in the second semifinal.
Semifinal #1 - Emmanuel 3, Mount Olive 0
West top-seeded Emmanuel swept East second-seeded Mount Olive, but the 3-0 scoreline was not truly indicative of the high-quality of the match and the level of volleyball. In fact, Mount Olive gave Emmanuel all it could handle at points, but the Lions were nevertheless able to withstand huge Mount Olive rallies in all three sets.
Emmanuel needed extra points in the first set to secure a hard-fought 27-25 win. In the second set, Emmanuel pulled away in the latter points to secure a 25-20 win. In the third set, Mount Olive rallied heavily late, but Emmanuel was able to hold on for a 25-22 win in the set.
Emily Hanson led Emmanuel with 13 kills, while Gabrielle McGlamery paced the Lion attack with 29 assists to go along with seven digs. Amore Marshall finished with 14 digs for Emmanuel.
Mount Olive's Ashlyn Stone had 12 kills to lead the Trojans, while Morgan Prots finished with 19 digs. Neza Pec was right behind with 18 digs for Mount Olive.
Semifinal #2 - UNC Pembroke 3, North Greenville 2
The first two sets featured both teams picking up relatively easy wins with UNC Pembroke taking a 25-17 win in the opening set and North Greenville garnering a 25-16 victory in the second set. North Greenville went ahead 2-1 in the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
The momentum would swing back to UNC Pembroke in the fourth set with the Braves rallying to win 25-20 in the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set. UNC Pembroke would emerge with a 15-11 win in the fifth set to move on to the championship match.
Four different players finished with double-digit kills for UNC Pembroke in its win with Shannon Skryd and Vanja Przulj collecting double-doubles. Przulj had a team-best 13 kills to go along with 17 digs, while Skryd finished with 16 digs and 11 kills. Katie Pressley ended her efforts with 18 digs, while Brianna Warren had 10 kills and six blocks for UNC Pembroke. Morgan Gibbs dished out 48 assists.
Ashlyn Conner dished out 51 assists for a North Greenville offense that had three players finish with double-digit kills. Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Abigail Durham collected a double-double with a match-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs. She also had three blocks. Conner also had 14 digs to finish with a double-double of her own.
