WINGATE, N.C. – Conference Carolinas men’s and women’s cross country put together a strong day at the 2022 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional highlighted by Conference Carolinas Runner of the Year Joshua Chepkesir of UNC Pembroke claiming the men’s individual title.
 
In the men’s 10K, Chepkesir won the regional to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country Championship. Chepkesir posted a time of 31:04.94.
 
Buoyed by Chepkesir, the Braves, who won the Conference Carolinas team championship, were the top league finishers as they placed sixth overall with 169 points. Conference runner-up Emmanuel placed seventh with 198 points and Lees-McRae joined them in the top-10 at No. 10 with 293 points. 
 
In the women’s 6K, Jackline Kosgei of UNC Pembroke also earned a spot in the national championship as she finished fifth overall in 22:18.19. The Braves also picked up the best team finish with an eighth-place team finish with 244 points. Three Conference Carolinas teams were in the top 10 with King ninth (277) and Converse 10th (291).

The 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country Southeast Regional was hosted by Wingate University at the Wingate University Cross Country Course.
  
The top three teams at each of the eight NCAA Division II regional championships automatically advanced to the championship finals while 10 at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Committee for a total of 34 teams.
 
In addition to team qualifications, the top two individuals who were not part of a qualifying team automatically advanced to the championship finals. All individuals who finished in the top five at the regional meet and were not part of a qualifying team earned a bid to the championship finals and eight individuals will be selected as at-large qualifiers. 
 
The championship finals will take place as part of the 2022 NCAA Division II Fall Festival on Friday, Dec. 2 at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington. The official qualifiers will be released on Monday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m.
