Conference Carolinas Places Four on United Soccer Coaches Women’s Soccer All-Region Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The United Soccer Coaches (USC) released its 2022 All-Region women’s soccer teams and four Conference Carolinas student-athletes were recognized.
Anna Grossheim of UNC Pembroke and Romee Contreras of North Greenville earned first team All-Southeast Region honors while Chiara Coppin and Mercy Bell of UNC Pembroke earned second team accolades.
Grossheim, the Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Player of the Year, was named to the first team as a midfielder. The junior from Garner, North Carolina led Conference Carolinas in shots (113), shots on goal (54), goals (14) and assists (11), and shared the league perch with five game-winning goals, on the way to a career-best 39 points. She scored at least one point (goal or assist) in 12 outings this season, including multi-score efforts against Converse, Emmanuel, Barton and North Greenville. She was named United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on October 26 as well.
Contreras, a graduate student from Rancho Cucamonga, California, finished the season second in Conference Carolinas with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists and tied Grossheim for league lead in game-winner goals with five. The 13 goals for the Crusaders’ forward ranked second to Grossheim on the season while her 34 shots on goal ranked third in the league.
Coppin, a junior goalkeeper from Monroe, North Carolina, finished the year 15-3-2 overall with six shutouts which ranked second in Conference Carolinas. She allowed just 13 goals in 21 matches for a .681 goals against average. She made 68 saves on the season with an .840 save percentage.
Bell, a freshman forward from Jacksonville, North Carolina, finished the season tied for fourth in the league with 22 points in 14 games with nine goals and four assists. Her goals tied for fifth in the league while she attempted the third-most shots per game (3.64) and the fourth-most shots on goal (33).
