Conference Carolinas SAAC Continues to Make an Impact
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas released its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Impact numbers through October and league institutions have tallied over 3,200 hours of community service, collected nearly 50,000 cans of food and raised over $3,000 for Make-A-Wish.
Beginning in 2003, NCAA Division II SAAC created a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Division II has raised more than $6.6 million entering this season and Conference Carolinas has added to that number this fall. Mount Olive leads the charge with $2,062 raised through October with Belmont Abbey second with $592 raised while North Greenville was third with $213. In the community, Emmanuel leads the way in service hours with 1,032.5 through October. Belmont Abbey is second with 920 hours of service followed by King who has totaled 456 hours.
The canned food drive initiative was created by the SAAC leadership as a way to make more of an impact in the communities our institutions serve. So far this year Emmanuel has collected an astonishing 25,997 items followed by UNC Pembroke with 5,699 and North Greenville with 4,550.
New this year, the Conference Carolinas SAAC is having a competition to see which institution attends more of the virtual SAAC programming events throughout the year. Conference Carolinas has held six events so far and Francis Marion leads the way with 54 participants across the events. Lees-McRae is second with 33 attendees while Barton is third with 20.
