Jeanetta Elder of Emmanuel and Laila Harris of Mount Olive Pick Up Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Jeanetta Elder of Emmanuel and Laila Harris of Mount Olive have picked up the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas women’s basketball for the week ending Dec. 11, 2022.
Elder was selected as the Player of the Week, while Harris earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A 6-foot-1 senior center from Athens, Georgia, Elder averaged 17 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 assists and one block per game in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel. Elder closed out Emmanuel’s road conference win over Southern Wesleyan on Dec. 7 with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a block. She followed that up with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in Emmanuel’s league win over King on Dec. 10. She shot 61 percent (14-of-23) from the field on the week. Elder is presently second in the league in scoring (16.0 points per game) and in field goal percentage (47.8 percent). She is also among the top-10 in the league in rebounding (7.7 per game).
A 6-foot-1 junior forward from Englewood, New Jersey, Harris averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.0 assists and one steal per game in a 2-0 week for Mount Olive. She opened last week with 13 points, six rebounds and two assists in a win over Mars Hill on Dec. 6. Harris followed that up with three blocked shots and two steals to go along with 20 points, five rebounds and two assists in a victory over Virginia State on Dec. 10. Harris is currently second in Conference Carolinas with 1.6 blocks per game. She is also in the top-10 in scoring with 13.9 points per game.
