KJ Jones II of Emmanuel and Mason Taylor of Belmont Abbey Collect Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – KJ Jones II of Emmanuel and Mason Taylor of Belmont Abbey have collected the weekly honors for Conference Carolinas men’s basketball for the week ending Dec. 11, 2022.
Jones was chosen as the Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Taylor garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
A 6-foot-6 junior guard from Atlanta, Jones averaged 28.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game in three games last week for Emmanuel. In Emmanuel’s game against Chowan on Monday, Dec. 5, Jones finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. He followed that up by collecting a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Emmanuel’s road league win over Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, Dec. 7. He also had eight assists and three steals in the game. Jones closed out the week with a career-best 39 points to go along with eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal in a home conference win over King on Saturday, Dec. 10. Jones presently leads Conference Carolinas, and is among the top three in all of NCAA Division II, in points per game at 25.3 points per outing. He is third in the league in assists per game (4.3) and is also third in the league in steals per game at 2.0.
A 6-foot-4 junior guard from Grandview, Missouri, Taylor was strong in a perfect 2-0 week for Belmont Abbey, averaging 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. In Belmont Abbey’s win over St. Augustine’s on Dec. 7, Taylor closed out his efforts with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. He followed that up with 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in Belmont Abbey’s thrilling 76-75 conference win over Lees-McRae on Dec. 10. Taylor is currently in the top-10 in the conference in blocks (1.0 per game) and steals (1.6 per game).
