Conference Carolinas Announces January SAAC Programming Schedule
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will hold three virtual programs in the month of January to benefit student-athletes across all 13 member institutions.
The month is highlighted by the virtual mental health series which features a pair of virtual sessions on Jan. 17 and 22. The month also includes the Conference Carolinas SAAC Meeting on Jan. 29.
Dr. Shea Fontanta, D.O. kicks off the mental health series on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. ET with a presentation on the importance of sleep. Shea Fontana, MD is the Associate Program Director for the Upstate psychiatry residency program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. She has a Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry awarded by the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). She focuses on providing care to athletes, college students and adults utilizing a combination of lifestyle modifications (sleep hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity), psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. The second session in the mental health series features Dr. Marina Harris, licensed psychologist and CEO of Bloom Psychology Group, PLLC. A former Division I gymnast, Harris understands the pressure felt by high-achievers and perfectionists. She’s an expert in anxiety, eating disorders, sports psychology and trauma. The final virtual event of the first month of the year will be the Conference Carolinas SAAC meeting. Information regarding the meeting will be sent to Conference Carolinas SAAAC members prior to the meeting on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
