Mycherie Onwuzuruike and Jada Pittman of Southern Wesleyan Earn Women’s Indoor Track and Field Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mycherie Onwuzuruike and Jada Pittman of Southern Wesleyan were selected as the Conference Carolinas weekly award winners for women’s indoor track and field for the week ending Dec. 4.
Onwuzuruike was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Pittman earned Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
A graduate student from Powder Springs, Georgia, Onwuzuruike had a brilliant start to the indoor season as the reigning Conference Carolinas Indoor Field Athlete of the Year recorded a pair of NCAA qualifying marks at the Clemson Opener. She finished eighth in the 60m with a school record time of 7.65 in the prelims which ranks No. 13 in NCAA Division II while her long jump of 5.75m (18-10.5) placed her fourth in the event and is the eighth-best mark in NCAA II.
Not to be outdone, Pittman bested her teammate in the long jump as she finished third with an NCAA qualifying mark of 5.76m (18-10.75). The freshman from Jefferson, Georgia ranks seventh in NCAA II in the long jump. She also ran in the 60m with a time of 7.94.
