Rankings Update: UNC Pembroke Cracks Top 5 as League Remains Strong in National and Regional Rankings

GREENVILLE, S.C. With winter sports nearing conference tournament play and spring sports hitting their stride, Conference Carolinas institutions continue to hold strong in national and regional polls. 

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released their latest Division II Top 25 regular-season poll of the 2021-22 season and Barton moved up two spots to No. 12 with 321 points. In the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Women’s Basketball poll, Barton is ranked No. 15 in the national poll with 154 points and moved up to third in the Southeast Region with 48 points. Mount Olive is eighth with 22 points and Chowan is 10th with seven points. The WBCA poll is available here while the D2SIDA polls are here.

In the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll, UNC Pembroke came in at No. 5 with 333 points. It’s the first top-five ranking for Conference Carolinas since King in the 2015-16 season. In the D2SIDA Men’s Basketball poll UNC Pembroke climbed one spot to No. 6 with 323 points in the national rankings and was voted a unanimous No. 1 in the Southeast region with 60 points. In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) men’s volleyball division I-II poll Mount Olive continued to receive votes while the Trojans are No. 5 in the latest Off the Block Division II Men’s Volleyball Coaches Poll released this week with 94 points. Belmont Abbey is sixth with 66 points while North Greenville and Barton continue to receive votes. The AVCA poll is available here while the Off the Block poll is available here.

On the track, the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the latest regional Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) and on the women’s side five Conference Carolinas institutions found themselves inside the top-10 led by Mount Olive at No. 4 with 242.12 points. UNC Pembroke was sixth (172.39), Southern Wesleyan was seventh (166.59), Emmanuel was eighth (105.29) and Converse was ninth (101.75). North Greenville was 11th with 94.72 points, Lees-McRae was 13th (75.93), King was 16th (31.59), Erskine was 19th (21.95) and Barton was 23rd (3.04). 

In the men’s TFRI, Mount Olive ranked fifth with 256.48 points, UNC Pembroke was seventh with 157.14 points and North Greenville was eighth with 117.05 points. Emmanuel was 11th with 87.10 points while Southern Wesleyan was 14th (38.23), Lees-McRae was 16th (24.80), Barton was 17th (22.53), Erskine was 20th (11.98), King was 21st (10.53), and Converse was 22nd (5.41). In the pool, the February regular-season College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll was released this week and Emmanuel is 16th in the men’s poll with 63 points.  In the updated SwimCloud Top-50 dual rankings there was no change on the men’s side while the women’s standings have UNC Pembroke at No. 44 with 609.35 points followed by Emmanuel (46th, 604.75) and Lees-McRae (49th, 593.30). In the latest Golfstat rankings, the Belmont Abbey men’s team ranks 17th while Erskine is 19th and Barton is 25th. The full rankings are available here.

The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Dynamic 2022 Men’s Coaches Division II Poll was released for the week of Feb. 7 and Mount Olive led Conference Carolinas at No. 14 with 152 points. Belmont Abbey was 17th with 91 points while North Greenville received votes. The full poll is available here
