Mount Olive Claims 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships

RESULTS | WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 2022 Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships concluded on Monday afternoon with Mount Olive collecting both the men’s and women’s team titles at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It’s the sixth-straight title for the men’s program while the women reclaimed their title and have now won seven of the last eight indoor crowns.
 
The Trojan men were led by Field Athlete and Freshman of the Year Jaleal Hamlett who tallied 14 points in the championship as he placed third in the triple jump (13.91m, 45-7.75) on Monday to go with his second-place finish in the long jump. 
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, Joshua Chepkesir, was a star for UNC Pembroke on the final day of competition as the redshirt junior added to his 5000m win on day one with another win in the 3000m (8:41.74) and a second-place finish in the mile (4:20.51). 
 
On the women’s side, Jharna Alston of Emmanuel took home Track Athlete of the Year honors as she finished the meet with 20 points with wins in the 200m (24.87) and 60m (7.68). She also ran on the Lions’ 4x400m relay squad. 
 
Mycherie Onwuzurukie of Southern Wesleyan was named the Field Athlete of the Year as she scored 22.5 points, second most in the meet overall, as she won both the triple jump (11.57m, 37-11.5) and the long jump while also competing in the 4x400m relay. 
 
The women’s Freshman of the Year went to Ashley Doyle of King who won the women’s 3000m (10:41.98) and placed second in the 5000m. 
 

 Mount Olive won the men’s championship with 152 points while UNC Pembroke placed second with 115. North Greenville finished third with 94 points with Emmanuel (73.5) and Lees-McRae (64) rounding out the top five.
 
The Trojan women scored 132 points to win the title while Southern Wesleyan edged UNC Pembroke 87-86 for second place. Converse was fourth with 77 points and Emmanuel (52) rounded out the top five.
